At least 1.1 billion people lack access to safe water and 2.6 billion lack access to basic sanitation, resulting in the deaths of 3900 children per day. Access to water pumps offers an entire village, women, and children safety and convenience. It also saves women and children from countless hours of toil each day fetching water. The water could be provided though a combination of protected springs, borewells, rainwater harvesting, and other basic technologies.

In the MV Sim, installing a water pumps frees the family from having to spend hours collecting water. Moreover, the likelihood of contracting a water-borne disease is reduced when a water pump is installed, since there is less likelihood of consuming contaminated water.
